Trying to pick a perfect birthday present for a teenager can prove to be a real challenge. It seems like there’s a new fad every month and keeping up with all of that is close to impossible. So, if you want to avoid the headache of going through a thousand options in your head, and if you don’t want to end up getting the wrong thing, here are five ideas to help you buy the perfect present for any teenager.

Roller skates

If your child hasn’t got them already, this could be an amazing, fun and very practical present. Nowadays, as more teenagers spend a huge chunk of their free time indoors, sitting passively in front of one screen or another, getting them roller skates might encourage them to step outside, in the fresh air, and be physically active. Of course, if they’ve never tried roller-skating, you should also get them adequate protective gear, so that they don’t hurt themselves while trying to master this activity. And if they’ve already got roller skates, you can opt for a new bike or a skateboard instead.

Pets

If you want your teenager to be more responsible, while adoring the present you get them, a pet might just do the trick. If you have enough space for a dog or a cat, take your child to a local animal shelter and adopt an animal there. If not, there are many other options, such as parrots, goldfish, hamsters, or tortoises. Before you get them a pet, have a chat with them and make sure they’re aware that animals are not toys for them to throw away when they get bored with them but rather loving and loyal beings. And if the teenager isn’t yours, talk to their parents before doing anything, since getting them a pet they’ll have to give up could lead to real heartbreak.

Technology

No matter what type of computer, phone or whatchamacallit teenagers have nowadays, there’s always something more advanced, and they’ll love to have it. Whether it’s an intelligent helmet, a drone with a built-in camera, or noise-canceling wireless headphones, you can’t really go wrong, and the variety of these gadgets will allow you to find something within your price range. If the teenager likes video games, a gaming laptop of the latest generation is something they’ll be crazy about. These high-performance laptops can take their gaming experience to a higher level, and you get to be the coolest person ever in their eyes.

Tickets

Another thing that makes most teenagers very happy is having a good time, which is why you could get them tickets to something they want to see, hear or do. For example, if you know their favorite band or a singer is having a concert near you in not-so-distant future, you can buy them tickets for that. Mind you, tickets in plural, since nobody wants to go to these concerts alone, and by giving them an extra ticket, you’re allowing them to choose who to take with them. Otherwise, you can buy cinema tickets for the teenager and several of their friends, or tickets to a local adventure park, if it’s age-appropriate, meaning it’s not for smaller children only since you don’t want the teenager in question to be bored.

Books

Many teenagers today think that they don’t like reading. Very often, this is because they only read what they have to, and what they’re told to read at school, and since they don’t always like those books, they form the opinion that books are boring. By choosing the perfect book for your teenager, you can make them interested in reading and literature in general, so do some research, find out what genre would suit them and go online to learn which teen novels got the best reviews. Ask their friends or siblings if they’ve mentioned something they’d like to read, or just ask for advice from your bookshop assistant.

So, if you’re on a quest for that ideal present, these ideas could solve all your problems. Buying your teenager something they’ll be mad about will make them think the world of you.
