Books to Read

Every year on August 9th, bookworms everywhere celebrate National Book Lovers Day—a day dedicated to indulging in your favorite reads, exploring new stories, and maybe even adding a few fresh titles to that “to be read” pile (you know, the one that could double as a nightstand).

Whether you love curling up with a cozy blanket and a cup of tea or you’re more of a “book by the pool” kind of reader, today is the perfect excuse to lose yourself in another world. To help you celebrate, I’ve put together a list of books across genres that will inspire, entertain, and maybe even change the way you see the world.

1. Anchored in Hope – An Inspirational Anthology

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know storytelling is at the heart of everything I do. Anchored in Hope is a collection of heartfelt, real-life stories from women who have walked through some of life’s toughest storms and found strength in the process.

I am honored to be one of the contributing authors in this book, sharing my personal journey of resilience, family, and faith. My chapter is a reminder that even in the darkest seasons, hope is the anchor that keeps us steady. If you’re looking for a read that’s equal parts raw, relatable, and uplifting, this one belongs at the top of your list.

2. The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

For those who love fiction with a touch of philosophy, The Midnight Library explores the endless possibilities of the lives we could live—and the beauty of embracing the one we have. It’s thought-provoking, heartwarming, and perfect for readers who enjoy a little magic with their meaning.

3. Becoming by Michelle Obama

In this powerful memoir, Michelle Obama invites us into her world, sharing the experiences that shaped her—from her childhood in Chicago to her years as First Lady of the United States. It’s inspiring, deeply personal, and a reminder of the impact we can make when we live authentically.

4. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek by Kim Michele Richardson

Historical fiction lovers will adore this story inspired by the true tale of the Pack Horse Librarians of Kentucky. It’s a moving look at the power of books, community, and courage in the face of prejudice and hardship.

5. The Lazy Genius Way by Kendra Adachi

If you’re in the mood for a nonfiction read that’s both practical and encouraging, this book is like having coffee with your wise, funny best friend. Kendra offers strategies for doing what matters and skipping what doesn’t—perfect for simplifying life without losing joy.

Tips for Making the Most of National Book Lovers Day

  • Visit your local library – Support your community and discover hidden gems.
  • Swap books with a friend – You never know what new favorite might land in your hands.
  • Start a reading challenge – Set a goal to finish a certain number of books by the end of the year.
  • Share your favorite read online – Inspire others to pick up a great book.

Whether you spend the day revisiting an old favorite or diving into a brand-new story, National Book Lovers Day is a beautiful reminder of the power of words to inspire, heal, and connect us.

If you decide to pick up Anchored in Hope this year, I hope my story reminds you that no matter how fierce the storm, there is always an anchor waiting to steady you.

So tell me—what’s on your reading list today? 📚💛
