White Night is, no doubt, a different kind of story. What was the inspiration for it?
So many people have asked where the inspiration for White Night came from. I’ve wondered if that’s because they liked it, or whether they thought I was slightly off the beam. Either way, it’s all good. Just happy to get the question.

The answer is both easy and difficult. I swore that writing fiction was beyond my capability. Couldn’t do dialogue. Didn’t know how to write in anything other than first person. And I believed that. Until one day at the office when I was talking with a young friend of mine who had just found out she was pregnant. We were talking about spiritual beliefs, and I shared some of mine with her. As we were talking, I realized that those beliefs were, in some respects, playing out before my eyes.

As her pregnancy progressed, the story for White Night grew along with her baby bump. I loved the story: its message, its characters. But it was in my head, not on paper. And remember, I couldn’t write fiction. Or that’s what I thought.

What I wanted to accomplish was to try to give folks the benefit of future sight, if you will. I did infuse some of my personal spiritual beliefs into the story, which may or may not be comfortable to all. But the message is one of love. Self-love, love for others. It’s so simple, but sometimes we make it so difficult. I’m hoping White Night helps folks care about themselves so that, in turn, they care for others.

Joanna Anderson Campbell lived the perfect life … loving daughter and sister, loyal friend, faithful wife, and devoted mother. She was happy and content. What more could she have asked for? Life could not have been better. At least … that’s what she believed. Until she died. Can death teach the most valuable lessons about life? Jo Campbell is about to find out.
