Carly tried to focus on what she could see rather than what she felt. The woman had long, silver-streaked black hair which fell loosely down her back. Small wrinkles near the corners of her eyes did little to enhance her placid expression. Her loose fitting top was a crisp blue with small blue circles embroidered into the cloth. A long necklace made of wooden beads hung from the woman’s long neck. The many metal bangles and rings she wore looked like they weighed down her wrists and hands.
“You may call me Kara.” The woman spoke in a voice as clear as the crystals on her table. “I sensed a troubled soul had entered my dwelling.”
“You could sense us?” Carly was sure the woman must have heard them come in, but she remembered that the door had been surprisingly quiet and they made very little noise when they entered.
“No. Not you,” Kara shook her head. “But the soul you bring with you.”
